1/25 resin Hemi 426 engine base kit
This Hemi “426” engine is detailed to represent the 1966-1971 street Hemi. This setup will give you the basics to build your engine without robbing from a complete kit. The kit comes with a one-piece engine block, timing cover, water pump, cylinder heads, starter, fuel pump, oil pan, oil pump, oil filter, and distributor with cap.

I started with a search for the best block to begin. I ended up with a Revell’s ‘68 Dodge Dart Hemi block. My first step was cutting the transmission off. Even though the side block and engine mounts had good detail, the front, like most engine kits, was lacking. I found the front of an older Revell dragster kit had something more to offer. I was already in the process of casting that part, so I milled the front of my block down and fit the front of the dragster block in place. After a few tries, and accidentally cutting the original plastic block half, I got the finished look I was after. One other detail I wanted to add was the three ribs on the back of the block. I found this detail in the Revell Tony Nancy 22 JR, so I cast the top with the inner block detail. I was able to mill out the section in my Hemi master to fit in the rib detail along with the inside block detail. Once I got that finished, I quit. There was too much work now to risk adding more.
You can see this engine used in one of my builds, 30 Ford Hemi Rat . The 426 Hemi was nicknamed the “elephant engine” at the time, a reference to its high power, heavy weight and large physical dimensions. Its 10.72 in (272.3 mm) deck height and 4.80 in (121.9 mm) bore spacing made it the biggest engine in racing at the time.

: This kit has been updated from previous version. The timing cover, oil filter, distributor base, and fuel pump are cast from 3D printed custom models once printed where prepped an used as masters for the mold.
